Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Monitoring Rack: API 670 Reference Design for Turbine & Compressor Shaft Vibration, Axial Displacement

For oil & gas, petrochemical, power and offshore industries, steam turbines, centrifugal compressors and gas turbines are critical rotating assets. Faults such as rotor unbalance, thrust bearing wear and rotor-stator rub can cause unexpected shutdown and equipment damage.

The Bently Nevada 3500 rack TSI monitoring system is a widely adopted rotating machinery monitoring solution. It is designed with reference to API 670 5th edition and suitable for SIL 2 safety related applications.

The supporting components include 3500 rack, 3500/42M monitor module, 3300 XL eddy-current probes, preamplifiers, extension cables, power supply and communication cards.

  • The 3500/42M module works with 3300 XL probes to collect shaft vibration and axial displacement data, also supporting differential expansion and eccentricity measurement;

  • Relay alarm & trip output, 4-20mA and Modbus TCP connection for DCS integration; compatible with System1 for condition trend analysis;

  • TMR redundancy is optional for critical units. It can be used for new skid packages and retrofit of legacy 7200 racks.

We supply brand new original components with test certificates for skid projects, plant retrofits and export spare part orders.

FAQ

Q1: Does 3500 with 3500/42M and 3300XL meet API 670?A: This hardware platform is designed referring to API 670 specifications. Full project compliance relies on sensor selection, redundancy design and trip circuit layout. Simple single-channel setup normally fails tender requirements.

Q2: Can 3500/42M collect both shaft vibration and axial displacement?A: Yes, each channel can be configured separately. Independent redundant channels for axial displacement are recommended for critical machines.

Q3: Can existing 3300XL probes from 7200 racks be reused during 3500 retrofit?A: Most models are compatible after checking part number and impedance. Some early obsolete versions are not supported.

Q4: When is TMR redundancy required?A: TMR 2oo3 voting is commonly specified for high-pressure turbines, key compressors and offshore units. It is generally unnecessary for regular fans and pumps.

Q5: How to connect the 3500 rack to DCS?A: Two typical methods: hardwired 4-20mA for interlock protection; Modbus TCP for data transmission. Emergency trip should not depend only on communication.

Q6: Are 3500/42M and 3300XL refurbished?A: Only brand new original products are available. All units are fully tested with certificates for export projects and urgent orders.

Q7: Is SIL application supported for the 3500 series?A: This platform is suitable for SIL 2 machinery protection applications. Relevant documents can be shared for client and third-party review.
